Curriculum
At St Mary and St Paul's CofE Primary School we teach the National Curriculum comprising the core subjects of - Literacy, Mathematics, Science and ICT along with the foundation subjects - History, Geography, Design and Technology, Art, Music, Physical Education, Religious Education and Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education. For these subjects there are programmes of study to ensure continuity and progression.
Detailed schemes of work are available to parents on request. Or these can be found on the DFES 'Standards Site'.
Children also study conversational French and can take part in a variety of extra-curricular opportunities. Our teaching methods support a wide variety of learning styles and we encourage our children to become independent, confident and reflective learners.
How do we make sure our pupils are healthy, safe and well-supported?
Our children have a good appreciation of how to live a healthy lifestyle; they have 2 hours PE/sport every week and also take part in health-related projects (e.g. Football Days, Healthy Eating Week etc.) Children can access Breakfast Club, where they are provided with a nutritious breakfast, and we have healthy snacks in school (e.g. fruit, milk and toast). Children are increasingly choosing healthy options at lunchtimes.
Our thriving school council, active 'buddy' system and 'junior playleaders' scheme all help to create a supportive, friendly and fun atmosphere at playtimes, so that children always feel safe and are encouraged to join in with activities. Our school also has a Learning Mentor who supports children and parents to ensure that any problems are 'nipped in the bud'.
